For this week’s One Minute Monday, Derek Hammond from our Customer Success team explains Activation Mode, an Optimizely feature that allows you to control when an experiment activates.
Sometimes we want our experiments to automatically activate, other times we don’t. Let’s say I’m collecting emails for my Crochet Club and am working with a modal that doesn’t appear until the user scrolls all the way to the bottom of the page. When that appears, I’m want to test this message “Sew, you think you can crochet?” against “Seams like destiny doesn’t it?”.
To make sure this experiment only activates when the modal appears, click on the Options menu in the Optimizely Editor and choose Activation Mode. Then, all you have to do is choose “Manual”, copy the provided API Call, and paste it into the function on your site that triggers your modal.
Or, if you have access to Conditional Activation mode, you can even have Optimizely intelligently activate the experiment when the modal becomes visible; no extra code needed.
